SPECIAL LECTURE

Thursday, 5 March 2026
5:00-6:30 pm|
Knowledge Exchange Building, 10th Fl, Room X04A

Lighting Research and Innovation Centre (LRIC), School of Architecture and Design, KMUTT is very please to invite you to our first Special Talk in 2026.

Join legendary researcher Prof. Peter Robert Boyce, the author of ‘Human Factors of Lighting’, as he explores the necessary shift from indifferent compliance to creative, context-driven excellence. This session will dive into the recognition of opportunity, the health impacts of light, and the urgent need for new standards that encourage true quality in design.

Lighting standards have stagnated for twenty years, effectively eliminating “bad” lighting but doing little to inspire the “good.” As Artificial Intelligence prepares to automate standard-compliant design, what remains for the human professional?

Highlights:

  • The Paradox of Standards: Why haven’t they changed in 20 years, and why do they produce “indifferent” results?
  • The AI Arrival: Why standard-compliance will no longer require human designers.
  • The Creative Mandate: How to match good lighting to context, health, and human performance.
  • The Policy Shift: How lighting standards must evolve to support better design.
