Speaker Introduction:

HAS Design and Research is an internationally award-winning architectural firm founded by acclaimed architects, artists, and educators Jenchieh Hung and Kulthida Songkittipakdee, who also serve as jurors for the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) – RIBA International Awards: Asia Pacific Awards. With a diverse portfolio of completed projects in Thailand and China, the studio has become one of the most significant and innovative players among Thai and Asian architects. Their recent works include the Aluminum Grotto and Public Ground in Greater Bangkok—architectural designs that blend traditional and natural forms, creating cavernous spaces that evoke the natural world within a bustling urban environment.

They have also contributed to various public buildings, such as the Simple Art Museum and the Museum of Modern Aluminum Thailand, as well as The Glade Bookstore, located in both Thailand and abroad. The work of Hung And Songkittipakdee (HAS) has garnered international attention, appearing in prominent publications like Architectural Record, Wallpaper, Images Publishing, Domus, Architectural Digest, Louis Vuitton, Dezeen, and Bangkok Post. The experimental and critical practice firm, Jenchieh Hung + Kulthida Songkittipakdee / HAS Design and Research, has built an international reputation through successful competition entries, with their work distinguished by a synthesis of form, pattern, material, and technology, resulting in singular, irreducible constructions.

Their innovative approach has earned them numerous awards and honors, including the US The Chicago Athenaeum Museum’s International Architecture Award, France Créateurs Design Award, Singapore Asia’s Best Firm in Architecture Design Award, the Russian Golden Trezzini Award, the US Interior Design Magazine Best of Year Award, Thailand The Association of Siamese Architects Expo’s Thematic Pavilion of the Year Award, the Australia INDE Award, the Wallpaper Architects’ Directory, the Thailand Prestige Award, and the Designer of the Year Award. Beyond their professional practice, Jenchieh Hung and Kulthida Songkittipakdee are equally committed to teaching, research, and curatorial work. Both were appointed as lifetime honorary professors at Kunming University of Science and Technology, and they currently serve as visiting professors and design critics in architecture at Tongji University, Chulalongkorn University, and King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi. They have also served as guest editors for the Journal of the Architects Regional Council Asia (ARCASIA Journal), promoting the works of Thai architects on an international stage.

In addition, they have authored three significant publications: THE Improvised: Phetkasem Artist Studio (2021), which explores new identities through uniqueness; From MANufAcTURE to Architecture: Museum of Modern Aluminum (2024), which expresses how architecture serves as a bridge between nature and humanity; and Chameleon Architecture: Shifting, Adapting, and Evolving (2025), which focuses on new research and practices in architecture.
